Do I qualify for a GLP-1 prescription?
Short answer: Clinical eligibility for weight-management pharmacotherapy generally starts at a BMI of 30 or above, or a BMI of 27 or above alongside at least one weight-related condition such as high blood pressure, prediabetes, sleep apnea or dyslipidemia. Meeting a BMI threshold does not make treatment appropriate on its own. A licensed provider also reviews your medications, personal and family medical history, pregnancy status and labs. Some histories — including medullary thyroid carcinoma or MEN2 in you or your family, and pregnancy — rule treatment out. You are refunded in full if a provider declines your case.
- BMI ≥ 30, or BMI ≥ 27 with a weight-related condition, is the usual clinical starting point.
- Must be 18 or older and physically located in a state RenewMD serves (all except Louisiana).
- History of medullary thyroid carcinoma or MEN2, and pregnancy, are exclusions.
- Final eligibility is a clinical decision — full refund if the provider declines.

What the provider reviews
Height and weight, weight history, current medications and supplements, prior GLP-1 experience, gastrointestinal and pancreatic history, thyroid history, pregnancy or breastfeeding status, and labs when indicated. Accuracy here matters more than speed — an incomplete history is the most common reason a review stalls.
If you don't qualify
You are refunded in full. The provider may explain what would need to change, or suggest discussing alternatives with your primary-care clinician. Nothing about being declined prevents you from applying again later if your circumstances change.
Frequently asked questions
What BMI do I need?
Generally 30 or above, or 27 or above with a weight-related condition such as hypertension, prediabetes, dyslipidemia or sleep apnea. A provider confirms clinical appropriateness beyond the number.
Am I charged before I know if I qualify?
The questionnaire pre-qualifies you on BMI, medications and health history first; your card is then charged at the step where you select your product, before provider review. If a provider overrides that pre-qualification, you receive a full refund.
Can I be treated while pregnant or breastfeeding?
No. GLP-1 weight-management treatment is not appropriate during pregnancy or when trying to conceive. Tell your provider if this changes during treatment.
